Novavax is seeking an individual to join our team as the Director, Sales Training & Development. Reporting to the SVP of Global Sales, this position will be responsible for the development of the training curriculum for the Novavax field team. Through on-going collaboration with cross-functional partners, the Director will be responsible for creating our initial and on-going advanced sales training programs. Serving as an integral member of the commercial team, this person will work closely with field leadership and internal partners to ensure that training related priorities are aligned with all relevant commercial launch and on-going field activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Through the incorporation of adult learning principles, produce and facilitate new hire and ongoing advanced learning training programs and curriculum. Initial focus will be to build our Initial Sales Training program focused on our candidate COVID 19 vaccine.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure the sales training program planning complements the corporate on-boarding program(s).
  • Responsible for the development of classroom and field-based disease and product education. Venues to include live and virtual training experiences, e-learning modules and other digital channels.
  • Partner with sales leadership, sales operations, marketing, and other commercial departments to ensure integration of strategic priorities, materials, and messaging into all training.
  • Partner with sales ops, field leadership, and internal stakeholders to create tools to analyze, assess, and monitor ongoing training & field force effectiveness.
  • Facilitate the definition and development of field sales core competencies. Create tools, curriculum, and relevant initiatives to support them.
  • Work closely with sales leadership and other cross-functional commercial team members to manage, design and deliver sales training materials for National, Regional, and / or District level sales meetings.
  • Develop field-based training programs including but not limited to field mentorships, field-based trainers, on-going coaching programs and field assessments.
  • Establish and implement key metrics to track and communicate value and impact of sales training and development initiatives to all stakeholders.
  • Assess impact, evaluate, and uncover the training needs of stakeholders through collaboration with cross-functional leadership.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely communications to field and home office leadership as it pertains to sales training initiatives.
  • Negotiate contracts, recommend final vendor selection, and manage on-going agency relationships for relevant sales training programs.
  • Work closely with Human Resources and Compliance to ensure initial and ongoing training programs incorporate Novavax's operational and Code of Conduct guidelines. Maintain appropriate documentation and records to support any internal or external compliance audits.
  • Responsible for ensuring Training department is resourced adequately to ensure on-going training activities meet the needs of the field and commercial teams.
  • Participate in the creation of and roll out of field level business plan templates.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with critical external training partners, including physician thought leaders, and instructional content developers. Provide end-to-end project management of selected partners.
  • Create initial sales training program budget. Ensure that program schedules match timelines in accordance with commercial launch and on-going sales activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant training approaches and content delivery options.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Minimum requirements:

  • 12+ years of experience in commercial biotech, pharmaceutical, and / or medical device industry required. Ideal candidate can demonstrate success as a field leader and has served in various commercial field and home office positions within the industry.
  • Has a passion for training with minimum of 5 years of training and development experience. Candidates with current training experience preferred.
  • Experience in vaccines and product launch experience preferred. Global experience a plus.
  • Natural leader who thrives in working with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Flexible and effective at delivering high quality programs under various resource abundancy and / or constraints.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong podium and / or facilitation skills required. Has the ability to motivate and engage the audience regardless of size.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time to various meetings and / or field engagements. Limited international travel may be required.
  • Demonstrated proactive, creative, and entrepreneurial approach. Strong organizational and operations skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree and / or certifications in instructional design and / or training & development a plus.
