We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance department in Gaithersburg, MD. This position reports directly to the Sr. Accounting Manager and will mainly focus on accounting for the research and development (R&D) expenses of the company.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with closing the books and preparation of monthly financial statements and schedules in accordance with US GAAP
  • Create, post and analyze general ledger journal entries for R&D activities, including consulting and subcontractor services, and other areas
  • Prepare and submit monthly account and sub-ledger reconciliations; identify and investigate discrepancies
  • Generate and analyze general ledger account activity and trends using the ERP system; investigate actual to budget variances
  • Work cross-functionally with Program Managers and other internal departments to understand contracts, programs, and services to support estimates and accruals
  • Review and monitor purchase requests and expenditures for R&D and overhead activities
  • Participate in the preparation of schedules to support SEC disclosures for Forms 10-Q and 10-K and other SEC filings
  • Support external auditor, SOX, and other requests, as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Minimum requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience related to accounting
  • Biotech, manufacturing or pharmaceutical experience a strong plus
  • Project Cost or R&D Accounting experience a plus
  • Proficiency with mid-size Accounting software. SAP experience a plus
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel
